Guadalupe National Park, Luckenbach, San Antonio and Surfside Island.

9/28  We stopped at the Guadalupe National Park which is a beautiful area and still has the remains of one of the old Butterfield Stage Coach outposts.   The dessert in this area is really beautiful.   After a while we reached the rolling hills of Texas and stopped in Fredericksburg thanks to a suggestion from  Susan Dunn from our office.  What a charming little German Village!  The Campground was great...Fredericksville RV.. and close to town.  Lots of historic old buildings and the National Museum of the Pacific War.  We were amazed at the number of wineries in this area.  You'd think you were in Napa as you drive along and see one winery after another.
9/29 m still sick so took a sleeping pill and finally got a good nights sleep.  That meant a late start, but we still wandered around until we found Luckenbach, TX.  What a kick....It's a small "one horse town" that has a small bar, gift shop, dance hall and outdoor stage where many famous country western stars have played.  We know it from one of Willie Nelson's songs and just had to stop.  Fred and I think in our next life we might just become Willie Nelson Groupies and follow him on the road.
9/30 San Antonio was the end of the road for us for a few days.  What a cool town!  Especially the Riverwalk, which is an amazing.
We had a wonderful time in San Antonio.  The boat tours are the way to go.  We took the long one that went through the locks and up to Pearl.  Really, really cool trip and the guide was great because he knew the history of the area and had a running dialogue of everything we were seeing.  The bus system is EXCELLENT and great alternative to a taxi, which we took the first night to spend the evening at Riverwalk.  The missions in the area are so beautiful and so well restored.  The Alamo was almost a let down after the mission we saw.  It's under construction so almost all the artifacts were not on display.  Still, it was great to see and it's location is great for getting back to the Riverwalk.
The bus dropped us off by the Buckhorn Saloon which is also a Texas Ranger museum.  We spent a couple of hours there and then enjoyed one of the best hamburgers I've ever had with a bathtub sized beer!  We split the burger, but had our own beers!
10/3 When we got to Corpus Christi and Padre Island we googled a walk-in clinic and I lucked out with a really good doctor who gave me a breathing treatment and two prescriptions.  Hopefully that will do the trick.
Unfortunately last night was not a GREAT night, but hopefully with the medications each night will get a little better.  Today was definitely better!
10/4 we drove to Surfside Island which is the southern end of Galveston Island.  We lucked out at a great little RV park RIGHT ON the beach.  The beaches here are awesome....most you can drive right on and park at the waters edge!  We are in an RV park, but 3 minute walk and you are on the beach.  We would definitely recommend Surfside RV Park if you are in this area.
Tomorrow we'll drive up to Galveston and then head to New Orleans.  Should make better time at least for a little bit.  So far we've really been dilly dallying and enjoying every minute.
