We are currenty staying at a nice little campground outside of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. This is a gorgeous area. On the way here we stopped in a historic mining town to stretch our legs and check out the adorable town. Lots of hitory with the mines, etc.. This morning when we woke up to watch the news a miner had been killed at the active mine there in town at the same time we were in that town! We had actually considered taking a tour of that mine, but wanted to get set up for the night so didn't. The weather has continued to be great, but we did have a lot of rain last night and they are talking or rain today. We have decided to head north and go to Canada and head to Vancouver that way. We are ahead of schedule and Fred's talked for years about driving up along the Canadian border. We are only about 90 miles from it so decided we might as well give it a shot.
The countryside continues to awe and amaze us. Everywhere we go we see such incredible views and sights. Something we've become particularly aware of is the different rock formations (after the 4 National Parks you can't help but notice) and how amazing they are. I have lots of pictures yet to upload, but yesterday for example there were these gorgeous rolling hills off to the side of the road and then suddenly there's this flat, straight ridge of rock going straight up that looks like someone took a 3' wide by 100' high board and stood it on end. The other amazing thing on the road yesterday were the trees! Tall pine trees so close together it looked like a puzzle. Truly, all the landscapes we've seen so far just go to prove this truly is an AWESOME country we live in.
So....yesterday we headed to Canada and took Route 3 across Canada towards Vancouver. It's definitely not the "short cut", but again an awesome scenic route. Perhaps not for the faint at heart because it's a LOT of up and down huge mountains, but oh my what spectacular views and what incredible landscapes. Last night we were told we had wifi, but that was a joke. Tonight we are in Hope, Canada at a really nice campground and have wifi AND cable! Wow, we are living large! :-)
We'll take Route 1 in to Vancouver tomorrow.
I did want to mention that should you consider visiting Canada you should be sure to include seeing Osoyoos! It's considered the Canadian desert because of it's weather, but it's an awesome valley with lots of wineries and fruit and vegetable farms. I haven't checked my photos yet, but if I got some good ones I will post them.
I'm way behind in posting photos, but hopefully I'll get caught up soon. I don't know what it is about being on the road all day that is so exhausting, but honestly, by the time we've settled in and had dinner we're ready for bed. It's good that it's getting dark earlier now...that 10:00 daylight way hard to deal with.
Sounds like so much fun! So excited to see all the pictures! Love you guys
