We had a really nice tour of Salt Lake City. We thought we'd see and learn more on a tour instead of driving or walking around on our own. It was a little over 4 hours with only 8 of us on the tour so practically a "personal tour". Six of the 8 people on the tour were from Florida! Small world. The guide was excellent and told all sorts of interesting stories about the places he took us to. He was very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting. I'd highly recommend doing that if you are limited on time. We had lunch at the historic Lion House and then went to an organ concert at the Mormon Tabernacle. The organ is beyond incredible and the acoustics in the building are so good that you can hear a pin drop at the front when sitting in the back of the building. The history of the Mormon's is really interesting and as we've said all along, you have to admire the pioneer's and their fortitude. They went through some really difficult terrain to get where they wanted to go. The State Capital tour was cool too. The ornate building reminded us of what you see in the castle's of Europe.
Today we toured Antelope Island, named for the pronghorn antelope that are native to Utah and the island. It was an awesome experience and well worth the time. There's a long causeway to get to the island that's 15 miles long and 4 miles wide on the Great Salt Lake. Made us think of home. There's a ranch that's been maintained by the State Parks so you can see just exactly what life was like for those early ranchers. While on the island we saw herds of bison and two antelope that came so close I got some AWESOME photos. We didn't travel very far today, only got to Logan, UT, but we saw a lot of different terrain and had a really great afternoon. Tomorrow we'll get to Jackson Hole.
